Our mission is assuring that children can have safe,
conflict-free access to parents with whom they do not reside.

Supervised Visits are designed to assure that a child can have safe contact with an absent parent without having to be put in the middle of the parents' conflicts or other problems. It is the child's need that is paramount in making any decisions regarding the need for such supervision. However, there are also some significant benefits to parents. It is our hope that no one will look upon supervised visitation or exchange as a negative or stigmatized service. It is a tool that can help families as they go through difficult and/or transitional times.

Pierce County Center for Supervised Visitation and Family Court Services provides families who are involved in Family Court with Professional Supervised Visitation and Family Court ordered services. Our Center allows for non-custodial and or non-residential parents, grandparents, and siblings to visit in a safe, private, controlled, and comfortable environment. Our center will provide maximum quality time to maintain family bonds and reunification. Off-site visits and home visits are on a case-by case basis.

Common Questions

What is Supervised Visitation?

Supervised visitation refers to contact between a non-residential/non-custodial parent or family member and a child(ren) in the presence of a neutral third party called a Visitation Supervisor. The Supervisor is responsible for observing interactions and ensuring the physical and emotional safety of the child. The supervisor will intervene if the emotional or physical safety of a child is threatened.

What is the purpose?

Supervised visits are designed to ensure that a child(ren) can have safe contact with a non-residential/non-custodial parent or family member without having to be put in the middle of conflicts, shortcomings, unresolved issues, or other family issues.

There are significant benefits to parents. It is our hope that no one will look upon supervised visitation as a negative or stigmatized service. Supervised visitation is a tool that can help families as they go through difficult family transitions. Some of the benefits are as follows:

For the children:

  • It allows the child(ren) to maintain a relationship with their non-custodial/non-residential parent or family member. Maintaining contact with family is generally found to be an important factor in the positive adjustment to family dissolution or changes to a residential schedule.
  • It allows child(ren) to anticipate the visits without the stress of worrying about what is going to happen. The child can be free to enjoy the visit in a safe, comfortable/controlled environment

For the custodial parents:

  • You do not have to communicate or have contact with a person with whom you are in conflict or by whom you might be frightened or intimidated. The arrangements can be made by this center and there will not be contact before, during, or after the visits.
  • You can relax and feel comfortable allowing your child to have safe and supervised contact with the other parent.
  • You can get some valuable time to yourself.

For the non-residential/non-custodial parents/extended family members:

  • You can be sure that your contact with your child(ren) does not have to be interrupted regardless of any challenges you are dealing with or conflicts that are between you, the court, and or the other parent.
  • If allegations have been made against you, there is someone present who can verify what happened during your time together.
  • When using a professional service, you can be assured that the supervisors are neutral and objective.
